Back in 2019, I released an oil that shook the Oud world, Blue Kyara - a pure Wild Vietnamese and Hainanese Kynam Oil, to which I added a smidge of the "Kyara of Blue Lotus Oils" - a legendary 2005 batch of Distilled Indian Blue Lotus. Needless to say - it was met with a bit of disbelief...until they smelled it.
The making of Blue Kyara was made possible by several colleagues chipping in the raw material in exchange for some of its yield. I had put together about 1/3 of the raw material, to which they contributed the other 2/3 of raw material. Their payment for their considerate participation was a portion of the yield. The remainder of the oil, I did two things with ...
Blue Kyara was actually the "artistic sibling" - I had taken that pure Kynam oil that and split in 2. The 100% pure oil was sold privately to 3 clients. Never made it in to the shop, unfortunately - for which I was given an incredible amount of grief (apologies again !) The other half of the distillation was 99.5% Kyara and 0.5% 2005 Distilled Indian Blue Lotus, which I named Blue Kyara. BK shook the foundations of Artisanal Oud.
I felt really bad about not having had any pure Kynam oil for folks, and I wanted to find a way to make it up to everyone ...
2021 was the 10 Year Anniversary of the founding of Rising Phoenix - and if Blue Kyara was the highlight of the first 10 years of being in business - I wanted to raise the ante in a way only Rising Phoenix could. The planning, of which, went back to 2019 and the success of Blue Kyara.
2019 BK was a mix of wild Vietnamese and Hainanese. I wanted a puuuure Hainanese Kyara Oud Oil, and not just ANY Hainan ... but the elusive and most highly valued White Hainan Kynam. And this time ... I wanted no artistic sibling.
I understand that BK was expensive - and despite the cost, I was able to keep that cost down because nearly 70% of the raw material was "donated". In other words, the cost was subsidized and done in a way that really helped me keep the cost down. I just want to mention that to prepare you, because none of the production of this oil was subsidized ... AND - it was produced using THE single most expensive type of Kyara - Wild Hainanese White Kynam. The Connoisseurs Kynam.
Now, I'm sure you're asking at this point, "JK, did you reaaaaaally extract a WILD White Kynam oil??"
And I understand the question and skepticism, given the storming of the scene recently with "plantation Kynam", which I really feel is like "Agarwood +" - as it makes for a nice Agarwood, but in my opinion - doesn't quite hold a candle to the old wild Kynam stock. And to prove this reality in the only way I know how ... I also produced a Plantation Kynam oil, which I named "White Tiger" - to which you will receive an equal amount of when you place your order for Bai Kynam, so you can compare and contrast the scents side by side. There is NO DOUBT that what Bai Kynam was made from is wild, and you will know the truth of this with a single whiff of both bottles. There is simply no comparison !
This groundbreaking offer of not one, but TWO revolutionary oils is how I wanted to start out the first year of my second decade in business. This is the Way. This is Rising Phoenix.
The SCENT
The Scent ... on man - THE SCENT !!
Those familiar with Kynam will recognize the mintiness - that cooling sensation Kynam is so well known for. Keeping in mind, this oil isn't "Kynamic". Thats a term way too often overused, usually applied to minty notes, or any oil with hints of bitterness. It's an overplayed term.
This oil isn't Kynamic. This oil IS Kynam.
White Kynam is known for being "Cooling and Floral" - and the mintiness of this oil is oozing floral notes. To my nose it smells almost like Osmanthus. The Chinese expression you'll often hear is "Chrysanthamum" - but I perceive it to be more Osmanthus-like than Chrysanthamum-like. Mincing florals aside - the opening notes will split your brain in two. Hundred. Two Hundred. Million. Two Hundred Million little fragments. You'll see.
As the oil progresses, you'll notice a persuasive pollen and bee pheromones note - like sexual honey wrapped around interstellar white florals. If you've ever smelled White Kynam - you'll understand what I'm referring to.
The Dry Down is this unbelievably long, drawn out Kynam Resin note. Those bee pheromones and interstellar white florals weave in and out - while that resin note drags on and on.
This is a rare oil that I would say you should exclusively wear on your chin, or a dot in the groove of the center of your upper lip. Why, you might ask?
Prior to Bai Kynam - 2019 Blue Kyara was hypothesized to be the most expensive liquid ever produced. This oil is expensive. 2021 Bai Kynam is likely THE most expensive oil ever produced on the planet kind of expensive - and you don't want one whiff of it to escape from piercing your brain like a bolt of lightening. Trust me on this one.
Remember - your purchase of 2021 Bai Qinam will ALSO include an equal amount of 2021 White Tiger - produced from what is known as "Golden Silk Kynam". It'll have a listing of it's own you can read up on ... but I highly recommend grabbing a little smidge of Bai Qinam so you can compare and contrast them side by side.
