Jungle : Panisagar, Tripura - India
Class : Wild, Triple + Agarwood Heartwood Chips , 100+ year old Single Tree Harvest
Harvest : November 2021
We have here a single tree harvest from a very old wild tree. I really dislike using the terms "Super/Double/Triple" - as there is no standardized use of the terms and I would rather the price be a reflection of the quality - but in this case I've chosen to make use of the term so there is no mistaking just how good this batch of Guf is. It doesn't sink, but it's getting pretty darn close.
It's rare to find woods from Tripura, let alone this quality.
Resin density is great, and the scent is fantastic. Agarwood from mountains and elevation always have distinctive scents - and this batch is no exception. Nice also that I'm able to give a specific geolocation from Panisagar. Considering so many woods from India or Bangladesh are sold simply as "Hindi" or "Assam" - it's nice to be very specific, and I always do my best to narrow it down as much as possible so we can enjoy the specific Terroirs of where the woods and oils are coming from.
Please note also Panisagar's unique geolocation - in northern Tripura, but also near the borders of Bangladesh to the north and Mizoram to the East. It's a really unique flavor profile. Check it out on the map in the listing - and be sure to look it up on the map on your phone. Really gives a sense of the place.
THIS BATCH
This is a single tree harvest from a 100+ year old wild tree. I have two separate batches from the tree - this is the first I'll be listing.
Getting geo-specific is great for tasting the Terroir. Likely you haven't tried many woods from Tripura, and doubtful you've had the opportunity to try from Panisagar.
I have a feeling you're going to love these. The pieces are large, and absolutely worth the splurge.
Enjoy !
