Jungle : Quang Binh, Vietnam
Class : Antique / Ateek : Clay / Soil Agarwood
Vietnamese Agarwoods, in general, are regarded as some of the finest by Agarwood afficionados in the Far East.
Wild Red Soil Agarwood is acknowledged as one of the best types of Agarwood by connoisseurs for its sweet fragrance, and is especially highly regarded for it's "Watermelon Note".
This type of agarwood is said to have been buried under natural conditions in the red clay / soil found in the Quang Binh region of Vietnam. After decades - even centuries of being buried - the wood derives a unique "rotted" appearance and fragrance that is regarded as one of the best!
If you are familiar with Vietnamese Clay types, you are most likely familiar with Fusen. Quang Binh is further north - and is located along the coastline. Fusen is located inland.
This is quite a large piece, and if this type of Agarwood was already rare, the size makes it exceptionally rare, as very little is found any longer. The vast majority of these materials are already in the hands of collectors, and can sell for several hundred dollars or more a gram.
This particular piece is very nicely resin dense, and has that famous "Watermelon Note", and is also kynamic in scent. It's a large piece that is very easy on the eye, and would not only smell great on one of our Subitism Heaters, but will also make a striking deco piece in the mean time.
Although this piece does not sink - the value for what you are getting is fantastic. If this piece sank - it would likely be priced 3-5x. Possibly even higher, considering the size and the beautiful appearance. The resin density is very good, the scent is heavenly, the body is good and solid. A true collector's piece !
I have two pieces that were found together from the same tree, this and the 329g piece - also up in the shop and worth checking out !
I acquired this specimen in 2020 - hoping now it goes to a good home.
