What we have here

Shalimar Extrait by Guerlain is an Amber fragrance. Shalimar Extrait was launched in 1925. The nose behind this fragrance is Jacques Guerlain, and the bottle was designed by Raymond Guerlain. It is one of the few classic Guerlain bottles that has housed only one single fragrance, as Guerlain had a habit of reusing its bottles for different perfumes up until Jean-Paul Guerlain took over as nose.

Top notes are Bergamot, Floral Notes and Ozonic notes; Middle notes are Iris, Jasmine and Rose; Base Notes are Vanilla and Tonka Bean.

Quoted from Fragrantica :

""Inspired by the passionate love story between an emperor and an Indian princess, Shalimar, which means "temple of love" in Sanskrit, symbolises the promise of eternal love forevermore. It is a fragrance of desire. With its smouldering and slightly impertinent character, the star oriental fragrance in perfumery embodies skin-caressing sensuality with a hint of the forbidden. "Wearing Shalimar means letting your senses take over," Jacques Guerlain would say.

Shalimar is a flight of flowers and bergamot whips up the top notes with a breeze of freshness. The heart is warmed by enveloping and delicately powdery notes of iris, jasmine and rose. To conclude, the presence of vanilla, rounded balmy notes and the gourmand warmth of tonka bean orchestrate a sensual symphony for the dry-down.

Jacques Guerlain daringly used a completely new gourmand molecule, ethylvanillin, blended with the Jicky accord. Swept away by this deliciously carnal creation, which he worked on night and day, he knew that he was paving the way for a "small revolution": the first pure oriental fragrance." - a note from the brand."

**To be clear - this is an Attar made from a bottle of ORIGINAL vintage concentrate somewhere between 90-100+ years old.

I find a lot of unique, rare oddities.
Always have, since I was a kid.

I happened across a small bottle of original Shalimar Absolute - presumably the concentrate sans alcohol. I don’t know exactly how old it is, but the paper label and wax seal leads me to believe that it is old. REAL OLD.

I’m making no claims, but I wouldn’t be surprised if this was from the 1920’s - considering it was launched in 1925, that makes this unopened bottle essentially an original formulation. Considering also that Robertet began making these pure essences for the fragrances they were manufacturing available around 1900 - it’s quite possible.

So what did I do ? Combined it with one of Rising Phoenix’s legendary Mysore Sandalwood distillations to create a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to wear an ORIGINAL Shalimar formulation in exquisite PHOENIX Attar form. 🥰

Robertet was Established in 1850. Robertet counts itself among the oldest perfumeries in Grasse, but their creations are thoroughly modern as well, having created scents for Gucci, Bond No.9 and L’Oreal. Still, it is their high-quality raw materials which made them the stuff of legend among perfume cognoscenti.
