Jungle : Sivasagar - Upper Assam
Class : Backyard Wild (wild planted and allowed to self-inoculate)
Distillation : Stainless, Clean Soak Non-Fermentation January 2021, 7-day run

Distilled from shavings and broken chips of the quality as seen in the photos.

Great for Daily Wear and priced for a joy ride 😉

Sivasagar is known for being particularly sweet - with leather and hay overtones and a “Heather ‘n Honey” underbelly.

This oil, like the teas from the area, yields a classical Assamese “cup of tea” scent that pairs well with just about everything. If you like Indian teas - I think you’ll love this oil.

Don’t expect artisan twists and turns and a really compelling story. Instead - cuddle up to a warm cup of black tea and snuggle with that well-worn leather jacket you love so much. This is a small bottle of comfort that’s easy to reach for when you need an Oudy hug.

Even though it’s a clean, non-fermentation batch - many Hindis still have some leather and hay notes bordering on “barnyard adjacent” for my Western-nosed clients.

I tested this with one of my local Taiwanese friends. Asian noses in general tend to be really sensitive to any barnyard notes - even more so than Western noses. I mention this - because he loved this oil.

So I think it’s safe to say this is “safe for all noses” 😎

ABOUT THE REGION

The city gets its name from the big lake, Sivasagar, situated in the heart of the city. The lake was commissioned by the Ahom king Siva Singha. It lies about 360 kilometres (224 mi) northeast of Guwahati. This city is surrounded by the Dehing rainforest, where the Dihing (Brahmaputra) and Lohit rivers meet. The Dikhow river flows in the east.

Sivasagar, formerly known as Rangpur, was the capital of the Ahom Kingdom from 1699 to 1788. The Ahoms ruled Assam for six centuries until their kingdom fell to the Burmese in 1819 and their ruling class was all but wiped out.

The province was conquered by the British in 1825 and was completely annexed in 1826. For administrative purposes, it was divided into three sub-divisions.

It is said that the original name of Sivasagar was - ‘Kalansupar’ after the name of ‘Kalansu Gohain’ who resided in a village that originally existed in the place where currently the Sivasagar tank is located.
