Jungle : Sujanagar - Pabna District
Species : Agallocha - Wild
Class : Traditional Copper Deg and Bapkha
Profile : Whiskey Distillation
**Milk Chocolate and very smooth Hay
In addition to custom distilling the majority of our own Oud oils, I'll also pick up unique stuff I find along the way.
Sujanagar 2016 is one such example of a wild oil from a region of Bangladesh that we hardly ever have a chance of getting our hands on, as the vast majority of Bangladeshi woods and oils we see in the market are plantation stock, and from further north in the Sylhet region.
This particular oil we found down in the Pabna District, with the oil hailing from Sujanagar, bordering the Pabma River - famous for its Elish fish (the National Fish of Bangladesh). We also picked up a few woods from the area, which at some point I'll work on getting up into the shop.
SCENT
In contrast to the heavier hay notes often found in the Sylhet area - Sujanagar 2016 has a warm and inviting Milk Chocolate Note.
This is a traditional Deg and Bapkha distillation, so expect some very light, albeit very smooth barnyard opening notes (I'd say this borders between a Brie and a Camembert on the fermentation, leaning more towards the Brie). It's the kind of opening that most Subcontinentals tell me has no barnyard and rather, they'd say is sweet. But Western and Asian noses may argue with that characterization, which is the only reason I mention it. Regardless of how we define it - it's not something to be scared of. It's quite pleasant and easy to wear.
I wouldn't say there are any smoke notes to this oil, but there is a nice suede'ish leatheriness that is very comforting. As the weather is cooling at the time of listing - it's pairing perfectly with the cooler weather, so if you happen to live in a part of the world with more mild temperatures, I have a feeling this will perform marvelously on your skin.
What I found really interesting about this oil is that after an hour or so into the wear, it transitions into a creamy, yet not overly sweet Milk Chocolate and very mild and smooth Hay note that is both warm and inviting. It's an "I can't get my nose off my hand" kinda yumminess.
Wearing it reminds me of my youth, and the simple pleasures of drinking warms cups of cocoa in the Fall and Winter and early Spring months. Strangely enough, Sujanagar 2016 feels homely, conjuring images of my siblings and I in the kitchen with our folks, and cooking with our mom. For me it's more than just a pleasant smell, but that of warmth and family and love, and the innocence of childhood.
With it's chocolately - cocoa undertones, the oil pairs wonderfully with Narcotic/White Florals (Like Jasmine or Rose), as well as with spicier notes. Think Chai or Xocolotl and you'll be on the right path!
For a wild oil from a region we don't often get to experience, the price is just right - making it ideal for Daily Wears. This is a terribly good value to experience such warm and loving vibes. Be sure to grab a bottle or a full Tola of Sujanagar 2016 for your daily wear through the coming cooler months!
